How to Stop Google Analytics from Tracking Your Own Visits

  1. Sign in to Google Analytics.
  2. Click on Admin.
  3. Select Data Streams in the Property column.
  4. Click Web.
  5. Click on the Web Data Stream you want to configure.
  6. Under the Google Tag section, click Configure Tag Settings.
  7. In the Settings section, click Show All.
  8. Select Define Internal Traffic.
  9. Click the Create button to set up an internal traffic rule.
  10. Enter a Rule Name (e.g., My Own Visits).
  11. Keep the traffic_type value as “internal”.
  12. Under IP Addresses > Match Type, select the operator you want to use to define the IP address for your own visits.
    • IP address equals
    • IP address begins with
    • IP address ends with
    • IP address contains
    • IP address is in range (CIDR Notation)
  13. In the Value field, enter your IP address or range of IP addresses that identify traffic from the location. You can enter IPv4 or IPv6 addresses.

Note for Step 10: You can enter a new value for traffic_value if you want to specify the exact location where your internal visits are coming from, such as home_office, corporate_headquarters, etc. Using a distinct value like this, instead of the default “internal”, helps you filter out different sets of traffic if you need to exclude your own visits from various locations (e.g., your home office and corporate headquarters).
